I skipped work this afternoon. It’s easy to do that when you’re self-employed and none of your clients have a big emergency to make you feel guilty. Anyway, my reason? To watch opening day it Yankee Stadium 2.0.
Now, I love baseball in general, and the Yankees specifically (go ahead, say what you will, I can take it!
) I watch them any chance I get, and since I subscribe to MLB Extra Innings on cable, I get a lot of chances. I generally don’t miss work (or most other things) to watch, though, and over the years I haven’t watched quite a few home and road openers, playoff games and even some World Series games. I had to watch this one, though. There are opening games every season, there’ll always be more playoff and World Series games (yes, cocky Yankees fans get to say that!), but there will only ever be one first game at the new Yankee Stadium.
As for how that game went, I’d rather not talk about that.
Still, it was a thrill, and I would have hated to have missed it.

WAY TO GO CLEVELAND!!!!

LOL! I just KNEW you’d say something like that, Joanne!
I followed some of the game on ESPN Gamecast; it was ugly

Yeah, but that’s almost beside the point. If I’d missed the game and they’d won, I would still be really bummed about having missed it. That they lost… well, I’ve seen them lose many times before and will see them lose many more times. There’s only one first game in the new Stadium.
